The Brutalist
Theres a building on a hill in Pennsylvania. And that building is a grave. A grave to both a mother and to the American Dream.
The Brutalist is, to use the cliche term, a tour de force for Brady Corbet. I haven't seen a film operating on this magnitude, this scale, since at least like. The Irishman? But despite the enormity of the film, it never loses sight of what’s important, and thats the connections between every this ensemble, and the strings that are being pulled tighter until they snap in half and fall to the ground. It would be so easy to come out of this film with a “Tortured Genius” narrative, but thats not what this is about. Its about a good man, being belittled, pulled down, & corrupted at every instance since he left his home, until the moment he breaks, and it all breaks down.
The Brutalist is the best film of the year.
