Princess Mononoke
For once a serious and long review (as I love this film)
The princess mononoke excels In many things most notably, its characters and the dynamic between them. The movie puts us in the shoes of ashitaka (hopefully I spelt that right) a boy who does not pick a side in a war between the forest and iron town were Neither side is good or evil.
The Forest
San and the animal gods? (Not sure if thats what I should call them) fight for their freedom as the forest is their home but they kill humans without mercy.
Iron town
Iron town gives work and dignity to former prostitutes and cares for the disabled that society left behind but destroys the forest to survive.
Ashitaka tries to make peace between both of them instead of choosing a side. Rather than asking who is good or who is evil the film explores how good people can do terrible things in the name of their justice. As well as hinting that just like in the real world their rarely is a 'good' side in war.
Edit: fixed quite a few spelling errors
