Anything above 2.5 is a good film and I liked it. Anything with a 🧡 means I'd watch it again tomorrow without complaint

Nolan makes films that are simply well made and acted. They’re perfectly serviceable and the practical effects are very impressive, I just can’t say that I’m ever moved or thrilled while watching, and The Odyssey is no different. I think it’s all just very safe, and ultimately boring. Clearly this is what a lot of people enjoy, and more power to them, but it’s not why I watch films. I want to cry, I want to laugh, I want my heart to beat hard in my chest, I want to sit there with my jaw completely dropped because I can’t believe what I’ve seen. I don’t do any of this while watching Nolan’s movies. (The Prestige honey we’re not talking about you here, you’ve done no wrong xx) Anyway, some more quick thoughts: +John Leguizamo surprised me here, he acted the shit out of this role, guy’s got range. +R-Pats is probably the only person trying to take a single risk on this production. +I liked it every time Odysseus plucked his bow, really cool interaction with the score there. -Mia Goth is quickly becoming the most wasted talent in Hollywood rn, can’t wait to see what they *don’t* do with her in Starfighter. -There’s nothing about the way this is filmed that’s at all interesting, it’s just **so** standard. Every shot is very basic and I feel like more oomph could’ve been injected into the film if they didn’t have to lug around a fucking 400 pound IMAX camera. Overall a pretty great film, but people need to get off Nolan’s dick man 🫩

don’t Fucking LEAVE the CAMERA ON THE **TABLE Clark what the FUCK**

I don’t think you’d easily find someone who loves The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) more than me. You will however, find plenty of people who like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (2026) more than me. The first one was admittedly light on substance, but made up for it with a lot of heart. This one isn't that, it’s a real mess. It’s stuffed full of sequel and spin off bait, it doesn’t really have a strong identity as its own thing, it’s absolutely not an adaptation of Galaxy. Rosalina has one of the most poignant backstories in gaming, they completely replaced that, and I’m really annoyed about it. I will say it looks real nice though, Illumination’s animators did a great job. I especially loved the 2D Star-Fox introduction, even though I wasn’t best pleased with him being in the film. One thing I can’t stand when it comes to Mario is crossovers, I didn’t enjoy Link, Villager, Isabelle and the Inklings being in Mariokart 8 and I especially didn’t enjoy Fox McCloud (despite Fox being very well cast) or Game & Watch in this film. (Pikmin get a pass because I’m biased) This isn’t Smash, it was supposed to be a movie.

I think my biggest issue is that it doesn’t feel like Edgar Wright, idk what that guy is up to anymore, the filmmaking here is fun but pretty generic. That said, it’s so much fun. Messy, yeah. But fun. Not enough Lee Pace, perfect amount of Michael Cera
