Rear Window
*"I'm not much on rear window ethics."

Indescribably perfect. Holy shit. Movies did not exist before this (seriously, literally everything ever feels informed from right here). This is everything. The definition of show-don't-tell, and then just throw some of the greatest lines ever written on top of it just for fun. Murder, romance, thrill, discovery, community, voyeurism... and glorious, beautiful, colour. How much is the external search for truth seated in a selfish pursuit of personal meaning? How much is the joy of the search based on the satisfaction of vicariously living the lives of others? Jefferies is wheelchair-bound, and struggles to imagine a future with his love. He is trapped in his own home, unable to do anything. So he lives through the lives of his neighbours, for better or for worse.
I don't even know what to say. Just 100% flawless. Basically every second is mind-blowing, from some of the most stunning visuals I've ever seen to just brilliant writing and acting. The deep focus and framing here is so far beyond brilliant. Utterly captivating.
Might as well be the only movie to ever exist.
