i was thinking that what it was about this film that didn't click with me. i was actually very like idk about why everyone else was calling it a masterpiece and rating it 5/5, while i didn't really feel anything close to that, even though i had seen it in theatres. i enjoyed it, but the experience felt strangely underwhelming, especially because i had been so engaged and had so much fun during the first half. it was only in the second half that i started getting lost, zoning out and feeling sleepy. so i wondered if maybe i hadn't appreciated the movie enough because of that. so i decided to rewatch it to find out. and the weird thing is, i was completely awake this time, and the exact same thing happened. i loved the first half again, but somewhere in the second half, i just stopped feeling connected to what i was watching. i wasn't distracted or on my phone, i was watching the movie, but it simply was just me looking at my laptop screen. and i think that's what finally cleared things out for me, the confusion i had. it wasn't just me being sleepy. the movie genuinely loses me in its second half. the pacing just yk doesn't work for me. it's beautiful, wholesome, emotional and very eyecandyish like a visual treat to look at. and i completely understand why people love it so much. that for the right reasons. i just really wanted to feel that same sense of awe and excitement, and even after a rewatch, i didn't. it was a good movie, but for me, the experience remained surprisingly underwhelming.
