i just want to say rocky is the most precious alien ever. i cried so many times i lost count, but wow. this film feels like the most human sci-fi can be, there's no wars or alien invasions, but it's a story of companionship despite barriers, and fighting to overcome them rather than letting them define us. that's the kind of statement films should be making. rocky not being cgi made so much of this film, it felt so real. the visuals throughout gave me actual goosebumps, especially in the petrova line scene where space becomes lit up with pink. space on a whole is such a magnificent piece of our universe, and you can absolutely understand humanities obsession with it. ryan gosling's performance blew me away, i wasn't sure if he could pull off the school science teacher turned astronaut and i take back any doubts i had because wow! he brought the whole film together with rocky of course. sandra hüller was incredible too, and sign of the times?? i was sobbing. all in all an incredible film, and probably one of my favourite of this style of all time. the story was engaging rather than feeling like an abstract attempt of seeming like something good (which i do find a lot of sci-fi films do, atleast in my opinion). overall so glad i went to see this in the cinema, because it *was *a cinematic experience.

this has been on my watchlist for far too long, and i'm so glad i chose to finally watch it. this was beautiful, and so so meaningful. the fact that deaf actors were in the deaf roles was incredibly important, and i think it's such a big reason why this film is as good as it is. the acting was amazing, i'm in no way surprised that troy kotsur won best supporting actor because he truly deserved it. i don't sign so i can't really comment on how good emilia is, but she really impressed me. it really made me think about how isolating it can be to be disabled, especially if you rely on someone else to communicate for you. one of the most impactful scenes for me was when ruby was on stage in the performance, and we are put into the perspective of her parents, where we cannot hear anything. the other was when she started signing at her audition as she sung, i was an absolute mess at that point. there was obviously so much thought and passion put into this project, and it paid off.

the brightest mind of the 21st century

this was adorable omg
