Freaky Friday
I absolutely LOVED this movie.
It was so entertaining in every sense. The casting, the plot, the relationships, the music… these were all so well written.
But mostly, Anna and Tess. Their relationship teaches us so much about mother-daughter relationships, which are so complicated and very often filled with misplaced tension. The lack of understanding from both sides is so real.
This movie helps us understand that we are all living life for the first time, and it is not easy to rear up another human being; you try to walk them past mistakes you’ve made, even though that is something they will have to go through on their own in order to grow. It is so hard not to carry some type of disdain towards the other given all the internal turmoil pestering the relationship.
However, once you try to put yourself on the others shoe, compassion drives you toward a point of common-ground, the truth, which is that you are both learning.
The portrayal of love is also beautiful, how it’s driven by all of your previous relationships and how it isn’t true to your appearance but to your character in itself.
A Rom-com that makes us laugh and cry, everything you could wish for to watch in a Friday night.
