Saltburn
I don’t know if I hate it for the fact that I love it or if I love it for the fact that I hate it.
Light and color and cast and soundtrack and setting are brilliant! The creation is great, the vibe was curated in a very good manner. Incredibly disturbing at times, which did make me despise it in some way…but I do believe that when a movie stirs, within me, that sort of reaction, its quality shall be appreciated. By instigating discomfort in the watchers it does fulfill its primary purpose. But overall, despite doubtful events i really did enjoy it.
However, the ending to me was redundant and the obvious choice, the easy one. Turning Oliver into this master manipulator and obsessive freak is coherent, but in my opinion it just fails to feed into the depth it could have, in a way it banalizes the story, without exploring more complex ideas that would feed into the mental sanity loop we are thrown in for. I did wish there was a bit more for us to chew on in the end.
But still, I believe it was consistent in a way and interesting to see the construction through the use of saturation and music and opulence. The very ending is ICONIC.
The spectacle of decadence.
