Sentimental Value
This movie was made to be breathed in. Absolutely incredible !
So heartfelt ! I was moved.
It allowed me to constantly understand both sides of the story, to feel both their pains. Relationships, especially parental ones, are always complicated. Its hard for sons and daughters to understand that they lived an entire life before us, and they are built from what remains, whether its love, abandonment, trauma…those things make them who they are. And at the end of the day, we are all trying and doing our best, and giving them a chance is always worth it.
This movie taught me about loving, and how loving feels and looks different for and from each individual. He loved her, and she loved him.
But she couldn’t feel his love, so all this anger started to accumulate and she was freaking drowning under it.
Another great observation was the power of language. I watched the movie in Norwegian – and now I can’t imagine it any other way – it was so immersive. When Nora reads the script we can see that not only was it built for her, but also it was built to be read in Norwegian, in english it just fell short.
The specificity of life is what makes it both powerful and terrifying, but trying will always be worth it.
And of course, I adored the soundtrack.
