Michael
So, I’ve been waiting for the "Michael" biopic for a long time (not with sky-high expectations, honestly, but still), and the time finally came to watch it. Strictly speaking, if we put the "biography" aspect aside for a second, the movie was actually above average. But looking at it as a Michael biopic? It misses a lot.
The film completely ignores so many key chapters: his relationship with Lisa Marie, his friendship with Chris Tucker, the bond he had with his kids, and even the court cases or the whole Macaulay Culkin situation. It felt like the movie was stuck in some weird, awkward middle point of his life. Obviously, you can’t squeeze a life as massive as Michael’s into two hours, but they really could’ve written a script that touched on the stuff that actually mattered. Given that there are still people out there who buy into every single allegation against him, this movie does absolutely nothing to clear his name.
Another thing that really bugged me was the attempt to make Michael’s father look "better" than he actually was. Honestly, from everything I’ve read and researched about Michael, I’ve always seen his dad as a pretty disgusting person. This pointless effort to polish his image felt totally unnecessary and forced.
Word is there’s a Part 2 coming, and I really hope so, because this movie felt incomplete. I’d love to see the other topics addressed, though I know that’s probably just wishful thinking bcs at the end of the day, it’s Hollywood behind the lens, and they aren't exactly known for getting into the messy truths. I recently saw a clip of Paris Jackson basically saying the whole thing is built on lies. While I wouldn't say it's all fake, the truth has definitely been twisted and distorted to fit a certain narrative.
On the bright side: Jaafar Jackson. What a detail! He honestly killed it. The way his voice sounded so similar was incredible. And the costumes? One word: stunning.
Everyone knows Michael’s music literally changed the world's rotation. Even though I’ve always loved Michael as a person, I’ve never been a "hardcore" fan of his music, though there are tracks of his I absolutely adore. I always loved his beautiful soul and personality. In the end, with his incredible naivety, sincerity, and that kind soul of his, Michael will never be forgotten. I just hope that if there is a next film, it gives him the respect he actually deserves and dives into the real details. Still, it was great to see something about him on the big screen.
I hope you're happy in Neverland with the lost boys, Michael. I hope you're not "lost" anymore. Fly high.
