not to hyperbolize but this is one of the greatest pieces of animation i have ever seen. it’s so gorgeous and dense with meaning and ideas. a grandiose new orleans jazz funeral of a movie. like hazel said in her review, was 9/11 the only thing stopping this thing from reaching akira/ghibli levels of recognition in the west? ebert certainly seemed to love it. he was right about this one.
