Scream
Changes
- Takes place originally in Bayboro, NC.
- When Sidney is on the phone with Tatum, it is originally set in her bedroom.
- Stu isn’t in the locker scene with Tatum and Sidney in the script and they kind of combined this scene with another. - The argument scene is much more back and forth with Billy and Sidney in the film. However, in the script, he accuses her of cheating. - In the script, the scene with the Principal and Sidney and the Bathroom scene are switched. - The afterschool walk with Sidney, Tatum, and Stu had a lot of changed dialogue and blocking. Seems more improvisational on Matthew Lillard’s and Rose McGowan’s end. For example, the flower that Stu gives Tatum is not in the script. This scene also originally takes place in the hallway at school. - After the “it’s the millennium” line, it’s all dialogue not in the script. - There was originally a Ghostface scare in the grocery store, and the scene was much more split up with it being intercut with a scene with Dewey and the Sheriff. - There’s lots of improv during the Dewey and Gale late night walk scene.- Near the end, the scenes are all scrambled and it does not match the order in the movie at all. - There was no written in kiss between Dewey and Gale. - Originally, instead of just escaping from the window and running away, Sidney hides in a dark closest for a while, then escapes from the window and runs away. - The Dad was reintroduced much earlier in the script, before Billy even discussed his motive. - Billy kept the gun more than Stu in the script. - The knife injuries in the script came before the “new ending” discussion (aka the bit when they discuss how they will be the sole survivors of Mr. Prescott).- The line “my mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me” is not in the script. - Randy is wakes up way earlier in the script and he even is the one to put the TV on Stu’s head. He even says this in the script originally, “You know what I hate most about horror movies? The final scene... it just goes on and on... and it gets so stupid...”- Sidney fired both shots at Billy with the following lines, “This is for my Mom, asshole. And this Billy stud-bucket is for having an incredibly small weenie.”- There is no Gale interview at the end, instead Randy asks our Sidney and she agrees, but only if it’s a Meg Ryan movie.Details
- There are about 30 action lines over 4 lines with only 2 of them being 5 lines.
- Approximately 105-ish scenes.
- About 10 pages were cut from the script, but there was a lot of improv and scene placement changes so it ended up being over the page number for minute count (at least this copy).
- The camera work is talked about a lot within the script approximately 30 times certain shots, angles, close ups, etc. are mentioned.
- Gale is meaner within the movie, which is especially shocking because Courteney Cox fought for the role and didn’t want her because she seemed too nice.
- Tatum and Dewey “edit” their lines the most (change the wording), while Matthew Lillard and Jamie Kennedy improvise the most.
- There are a couple of lines with words with no spaces in between, “LEAVEMEALONE” (I think that’s one). It definitely works well for this movie and genre.
