Zodiac
“I need to know that it’s him”.
Zodiac is a beautiful mystery that’s more about the characters finding out who it is, than who it really is. Even with that it’s still just as interesting. The movie has very interesting way at pacing the events. There’s the first hour and a half which takes you through each valuable event. The murders, dots connected, evidence etcetera. Then there’s the last hour which takes you on the brilliantly written journey of obsession that Robert goes through. 4 years later after the case is almost cold Robert can’t except it, he must find out who he is to the point where he reopens it. Robert isn’t a detective, a cop or journalist. He’s a cartoonist. He’s doing it for himself. That’s what makes it so interesting. Even when it’s obvious his wife isn’t okay with it, he’s remarkably ignored or the dots aren’t connecting he’s doesn’t give up. In the end the killer isn’t officially caught at all but it doesn’t matter. The claimed killer dies before they even get the chance to arrest him, this doesn’t matter because Robert connected the dots before that. Robert didn’t need him to be arrested he just needed to know who it was. It was never about the case, it was about his needs. Overall: 5/5
