Juno
**“Juno: Nah... I mean, I’m already pregnant, so what other kind of shenanigans could I get into?”
**
I’ve been debating for days whenever this movie should be part of my top 4. Damn you letterboxd, how could I possibly just choose four movies?!
Anyway, that baby bump Juno had was so adorable.
**“Ultrasound Technician: Well, there you have it. Would you like to know the sex?”
“Leah: Yes!”
“Juno: No!”
“Leah: Pleease, Juno, please!”
“Juno: No, there will be no sex!”
“Ultrasound Technician: Planning to be surprised when you deliver?”
“Juno: Well, no, but I want Mark and Vanessa to be surprised and if you tell me I'll just, like, ruin everything.”
“Ultrasound Technician: Are Mark and Vanessa your friends at school?”
“Juno: No, no, no. They're the adoptive parents.”
**
Juno is a 16 year old high schooler who suddenly faces unexpected pregnancy. She is sure from the very beginning she doesn’t want to keep the baby, but abortion doesn’t seem like the nicest option either. I mean, come on — they have fingernails!! (kidding, I do support abortion rights). She finds a family who are willing to adopt the baby after she delivers it instead (Mark and Vanessa).
**”Juno: I think I'm in love with you.”
”Paulie: You mean as friends?”
”Juno: No... I mean for real. 'Cause you're, like, the coolest person I've ever met, and you don't even have to try, you know...”
”Paulie: I try really hard, actually.”**
I loved the characters in this movie SO FREAKING MUCH. Juno is this witty teenager so says directly without thinking. Paulie is socially awkward but really funny a guy who loves Juno despite the fact she tried to deny her feelings. Leah is Juno’s best friend that reminds me so closely of one of my best friends it made me instantly attached to her character. Although Paulie and Juno have had their fights and so called “friend zones”, I’m glad they found each other again at the end of the movie.
**“Mark: [to Juno] You are so young.”
**
Mark and Vanessa came off as nice people, but only Vanessa kept her status till the end. Sure, she felt a bit stuck up in the beginning but it was mainly because she was so nervous and excited to finally become a mother. Mark on the other hand came off as this chill guy who enjoyed playing and producing music. He shared the same interests as Juno. But it eventually got to a point..
They had a 19 year age difference, and yet (how I read it) Mark fell out of love with his wife because he wanted something fresh, someone who wasn’t as strict. Someone who liked the same things as he did.
Someone like Juno. Gross dude. Even though this all had to kind of be read between the lines,
Vanessa deserved better.
**”Juno: As boyfriends go, Paulie Bleeker is totally boss. He is the cheese to my macaroni. And I know people are supposed to fall in love before they reproduce — but I guess normalcy isn’t really our style.”
**
This was close to a five star movie for me. No feelings were spared and the movie made sense to me in a way most movies don’t. I definitely recommend.
