I know this film is objectively better than 2022 version, but some characters could have been cut. Or at least given more to do, like how do you get Angela Lansbury and Maggie Smith and waste them both.

If I’m being honest, I like this film more than the Peter Ustinov version. Does the cast suck, yes. Is the acting bad, kinda. But I am a complete sucker for drama, mayhem, and being completely thrown for a loop. And the scenes from this movie, the long shot of fetching the doctor, the bouc reveal, the romances, the final scenes, even the goddamn mustache orgin story, ooze it. Is it slop, potentially. But I will gladly eat more of it.

I’ve been trying to figure out what I feel about this film, and the simple answer is that I really like the first half and I really don’t like the second half. For the first hour, the characters were fresh and dynamic, the revenge was fun and punchy, and the message was strong. But I think after they made up after the shovel fight things kinda went in a direction that lost me. And for gods sake, don’t make Bruce Willis’s character the good guy that proves your theme. His most important action in the movie was murdering his wife. But other than that, it was fun.
