Malcolm X
Growing up black you are not protected by the cruelty of the world. At a young age, you realize the world is designed against you. Since knowing the ‘why’ of this cruelty Malcolm X has been one of the historical figures I look up to. I think he would not want me to idolize him and recognize him as the man he was. He was never a violent man. Violence is an act of no reason, resilience is not violence. Protecting yourself and the people you love, is not violence. “Any means necessary.” I grieve a man I never knew. I grieve many that I never got the chance to speak to before. Malcolm has become the symbol of the fighting black spirit. His influence is ongoing. It is an injustice many brilliant minds' lives were shorten. Spike Lee's films about the black experience are deeply personal. We are in a silent war that you have to dig into to find. It will be a long time until this fire is burnt out, as Malcolm X and many others like him; I will dedicate my life to our future generations.
Rest In Power Brother Malcolm.
