Dìdi (弟弟)
I called my mother on the phone for the first time in a long time. Just to catch up and inform her about my life at the time. She said to me, “You’re not a bad kid Brandon, you’ve made some mistakes, but that doesn’t make you a bad person.” Our relationship was never the greatest. This movie just reminded me of everything she has ever done for me and my siblings. I know she had dreams, like every young woman does, and I don’t know if I was a part of those dreams. But I sometimes see her looking at me, the same way I look at my children. And I just know. We never speak of it, but we both know. I miss being a son, the same way I miss being a younger brother. A single immigrant mother doing the best she could for us. I could never give her what that is worth to me. Thank you.
