This is a long one. Gotta justify the hot take. If it was just based on how much I enjoyed it, this would be four stars because I liked it a lot and the 2 1/2 hours felt like nothing, but it’s not a 4 1/2 star level of enjoyment. 4 is still good for pure enjoyment tho.
BUT! When you add in the amazing filmmaking, you gotta bump it up a half star. Amazing soundtrack, great usage of camera angles, fantastic engaging storyline involving awesome character dynamics across a number of relationships, exceptional tension building, nice balance of showing comedy while also demonstrating the important and dramatic parts of the sport, and awesome performances by all involved. The list goes on. It’s hard for me to find something I disliked or didn’t sit right. Everything seemed wrapped up, maybe cuz the story is sorta generic, but it worked well for me. The pit crew lady story was sorta executed quickly but I get what they were going for I think. Anyways, that’s minor. Solid solid film. Edit: time has passed and I see to be the unpopular opinion, but fuck it. Love it.
