Bone Tomahawk
I’m not someone who rewatches movies often, so the fact that I’m on my fifth rewatch should already say something. oddly enough, it’s become something of a comfort movie.
each character has a clearly defined role and every actor inhabits theirs perfectly. the group dynamic works beautifully. I can’t stress enough how good the dialogue is. it's witty, dry, dark and articulate. the characters constantly jab at one another, clash and test each other and it all feels incredibly natural.
the film isn’t uneventful, but it does take its time to build up, yet it never feels slow. the character interactions carry you forward like a highway. as we approach the end, tension is built brick by brick and we eventually reach the destination: an explosive, gruesome climax that’s, in my eyes, impossible to forget.
to me, the brutality underlines the fact that we live in an uncaring, merciless world. one that doesn’t give, only takes.
usually my reviews are pretty straightforward, even for movies that have much more substance and depth, but this one just gets me talking.
Bone Tomahawk is wild and uncompromising and I’m looking forward to my sixth rewatch.
