Dune
Dune is a once in a lifetime experience. Such a big movie with a grand scope on many aspects. Politics, religion, war, and much more. It touches on these topics all while having incredible cinematography by Greig Fraser, an incredible score by Hans Zimmer and some of the best acting by Timothee and Rebecca Ferguson.
While some consider Dune as a slow, boring movie, I believe it to be the most masterful introduction to such a big universe. Dune is incredible at introducing you to every aspect of the movie (The Great Houses, the Emperor, the Bene Gesserit, the Fremen, Arrakis, etc) all while following Paul in the story. It doesn't have the sole purpose of being a "world building" movie, but yet it does it so incredibly. You cannot be confused while watching Dune. Every single term in this far away universe is touched on in great detail.
Paul is one of the most interesting characters in fiction. A normal, kind of weak and skinny boy who comes from a line of leaders in a great house, yet he's more than that. His Bene Gesserit side makes him more complex, from the Voice, his visions, and his understanding of the Fremen and Arrakis. Denis stated that he couldn't see anyone in the role of Paul aside from Timothee, and I completely agree. He fully captures the character and the growth he has. From a weak boy with visions I could endlessly talk about all the acting performances from this movie because they're all just so good.
Every part of this movie elevates it even more. The cinematography, the score, the acting, and of course the incredible directing by Denis. Nobody truly understands such grand scopes in Science Fiction like Denis does. From Blade Runner 2049, Arrival, and Dune, he just gets it. I truly believe he is the only director who could ever have brought Dune to the level it reached.
I've never seen such an incredible introduction to one of the best movie franchises ever. It hits on every beat, and I truly think this is a perfect movie for what it does. Dune is so incredibly influential, impactful, and just such an enjoyable time. I could never envision it to be better or changed in any way.
