I Swear
60/100
Very much an important film, as many people still don't know shit about Tourette's, with the reaction to the BAFTA controversy being the prime example. Thought it would be good to watch this with my dad, and I quickly found out he didn't know much about it either. He knows about it, but not so much the swearing version of it.
This is an enjoyable, crowd-pleasing biopic on the life of John Davidson. The film is consistently funny and charming, even despite falling into the schematics of typical great-lives biopics and sometimes feeling a bit too repetitive. The cinematography does feel merely functional, and the score is distractingly generic. One scene early on, where it should feel devastating and sad, instead loses impact because the score is distractingly overbearing and gives off the wrong tone. Robert Aramayo is genuinely fantastic in the leading role, with his mannerisms and acting feeling incredibly on point. The other actors are also great, making the film as watchable as it is. The third act feels way too clumsy and cutesy for my liking, and the scene with him testing out the new tech feels like an advertisement, but overall, I had a good time despite my many reservations.
