Lucky Them

66/100 Hard to hate something this nice and easy to watch. Toni Colette and Thomas Haden Church (who's wonderfully goofy in this) have a nice chemistry and while the film does go in different places outside of its central mystery, it helps when the characters are this charming. The film doesn't move the needle or impresses in its technical aspects, but I could use one of these once in a while as they're like breezy comfort food. I definitely needed more out of the main mystery as how it resolves feels incomplete. There's years worth of questions worth asking between these characters and yet it disappointingly doesn't answer any of them. This isn't to say that this film lands with a thump though as I'm won over by both Colette's acting in the climax, which is great and easily steals the show, and the cozy ending that wraps it all up nicely.
