The Fifth Element
Movie wise
The whole film is just so beautiful, I truly think that the opera scene is one of the most powerful scenes I’ve ever seen. The perfect being only absorbing human war is painful to see, she deserves so much love and obtain it in one of the most beautiful way possible. The meaning of love behind this film is perfect which also brings chaos and the will to destroy, I really love a movie where the villain knows he is. Even more, the characters are SO well done I fkg enjoy how every character is somehow representing a different mindset in view of this dystopian world, even the futuristic society is well done and accurate to a certain extent. I want this movie to be tattooed in my soul.

Jean Paul Gaultier designs are incredibly great, the fact the he designs more than a thousand costumes for this film and each of them are unique is work that only a handful of designers could do. Most of his work in this movie is inspired by runways of popular designers before him, even the most simple such as the white tissue Leeloo (Milla Jovovich) is wearing is sourced from his 1989 Spring/Summer runaway woman ready to wear which is kinda funny because it was just supposed to be a futile bandage like Milla said:
*
*“Luc and I began with talking about the costumes, and the whole idea of bandages just came out of our conversations, because it was like, Well, what could I be wearing? I was playing a tech subject that people needed to have access to, but I was also a humanoid and a woman who needed a bit of modesty, so we had the idea of covering me with bandages, which Luc gave to Gaultier to design the outfit.”

*Its even better when you know that some of the designs are inspired by pop culture, my personal favourite inspiration is for David (Charlie Creed-Miles) because is costume is a mix of Devo, freedom of choice album, and Obi-Wan Kenobi and it comes out as a possible runway outfit. The best designs in my opinion are by far the one Ruby Rhod (Chris Tucker) wore, I mean they are astonishingly beautiful and elegant, inspired by prince and mantique is so cool. Those outfits could alone be the covers of the most popular fashion magazines. I really really recommend that If you watch that movie, you go read this article after: *
