Zodiac
Its a long and demanding movie practically consisting of only dialogue and at first I wasn’t pleased with the ending but I then sat with it for a couple of minutes and I’ve realized how meticulously crafted this film is, the climax of fear that we experience when he is in the house of Bob Vaughn is only a reflection of Robert paranoia knees deep, losing everything over this case, we know he is safe but Lynch plays it perfectly for us to hesitate. I feel like we, as viewers, were meant to feel this overwhelming sense of longing during our watch to feel justly like Robert which makes us feel the same paranoia and maybe just like him, we want Leigh to be the killer more so to have a conclusion than to be met with the truth. In the end, when I think about it, what really sells it for me is the moment Leigh and Graysmith stare at each other in silence, it really puts a strong closure on the film which is something I didn’t realize right away until I remembered what R.G said:
« I need to know who he is …
I need to stand there …
I need to look him in the eye and I need to know that it's him. »
