Asteroid City
Wes Anderson, you’re a genius.
Wes Anderson is one of my all time favorite directors, so when Asteroid City showed up on Netflix, I hit play without hesitation. His signature symmetry is impossible to unsee once you’ve noticed it, every frame feels like a perfectly composed painting. The cinematography, as always, is stunning, pastel deserts, retro motel signs, and theatrical sets that somehow feel both surreal and grounded. It’s like watching a diorama come to life. The cast is absolutely stacked! Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, and so many more, and every performance is dry, deadpan, and oddly moving in true Wes fashion. There’s a quiet sadness running under the bright visuals, and it’s that contrast that keeps pulling me back to his work. No matter how I’m feeling, I know I can count on a Wes Anderson film to lift my mood. Asteroid City was no exception. It made me smile, made me think, and made me want to rewatch it the second it ended.
