Akira
I could go on and on about how this movie changed anime forever.
This movies plot is slightlt hard to follow, its true meaning lost in translation from the original work, the manga by Katsuhiro Otomo. Although a bit mondboggling the plot is still intriguing as a stand alone, it explores themes of government corruption, neglected youth, human rights and religious zeolotry.
Its music is otherworldly, extremely unique and almost impossible to replicate, the soundtrack feels futuristic but also ancient, native influences perhaps, perfect for reflecting the city in which this story is set, Neo-Tokyo.
The visuals are mindboggling and stunning, the use of and creating of unique colors specifically for this movie give the film its supernatural and wonderous feel.
Highly reccomend, read the manga for it to make proper sense as well.
