Cate Blanchett… EMMY. Emmanuel Lubezki… a GOD amongst men behind the camera, truly sensational stuff.  Alfonso Cuaron, I love you, but this script is an extremely mixed bag. Quite a lot of murky morally complex themes explored here in an often ridiculously hamfisted melodramatic manner. Parts that resonated deeply, and parts that rolled my eyes into the back of my head. Overall though I simply can’t look past how exquisitely crafted this thing is on EVERY technical level, with each episode for better or worse keeping me thoroughly engaged. This one is going to divide many and rightly so. Its commentary approach to such sensitive subjects will either infuriate you or work for you. I fall somewhere in the middle but found the series as a whole incredibly interesting and impressively constructed. It’s ambitious that’s for sure.
