Initially, I had some super long review for this movie, but I actually feel like I could probably talk about my thoughts much quicker via bullet points than through my original review: 1. As someone with very little knowledge of the source material, I felt like the general story of the movie was pretty good. That said, some of the creative changes made to separate itself from the book I found interesting and questionable. 2. I’m by no means on the hate train of Emerald Fennell, but I’m also not a mega fan either. Despite my film taste typically leaning into the style over substance category, something about her films make that style feel forced at times? Things like the skin walls in this movie are cool… but feel like choices that were made for the sake of bragging about how “different” and “creative” they were. They serve no purpose but for being cool and weird. 3. Similarly to my love for stylized movies, I’m also no stranger to hypersexual movies! Even then… something about this story felt like it catered to a more juvenile teen audience? And before you judge me for saying that, I loved Euphoria as a teenager, so I know exactly what type of edginess teens draw to lol. And maybe this is just a sign that I’m getting old… but I’m also not a huge fan of toxic love stories— sorry. I get nothing out of them! But if you do, hey man, more power to ya. All in all, this is definitely a visual feast, especially on the big screen. The leads do a good job with their characters, and we got a new Charli record out of this! So I guess I can’t be too much of a hater.

Back To The Future except it’s (even more) about friendship and it’s actually the craziest fucking movie you’ve seen in your life

Definitely a lot easier to sit through than I expected! Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the Twin Peaks universe, but when someone says it’s essential viewing to sit through 90 minutes of extended/deleted scenes, you can’t help but be a little nervous. I do appreciate the effort to keep the story semi-cohesive despite this just being what was left on the cutting room floor, and that definitely made this an easier watch. It also helped that I watched the actual movie for the first time last night lol. I can’t really say if this will benefit my first watchthrough of season three quite yet, but I’m gonna assume that it will? And honestly, I’m just happy to get more from these characters! If you go into this with that expectation, it’s a good time. Now all that’s left is The Return… stay tuned…
