Sonny Boy
There is this tragedy that lies in our desire to know everything. That very need drags us into an abyss of the unknown. Curiosity, indeed, kills a cat.
Anime like Sonny Boy deals with loss—loss without explanation can be agonizing, perhaps the slowest form of torture one can experience.
There is a strange peace of mind that comes with knowing the reason behind a loss, however painful it may be.
'The leftovers', is also one of the shows that deals with the elusive truth and unknown loss like sonny boy. I honestly saw a lot of similarities given in the form of grief.
Moving on, there are five stages of grief; acceptance is the last one—and it insists upon itself having watched sonny boy.
Making peace with reality, rather than living in denial, is the sanest decision one can partake in.
We may be able to live in a reality that is given to us, but we cannot truly make peace with it, if it remains unexplained.
I reckon that is the limit of human adaptability.
Or perhaps we are innately adaptable, but only to an extent. We need meaning—and that is what makes us human. So what is adaptability really? A vague sense of belongingness masked behind agony? More or so, that's how I view it after consuming magnum of an opus on grief, loss, despair. (sonny boy and the leftovers)
Lastly, Nozomi beautifully illustrates her existential view on the meaning of life:
Meaning isn’t something waiting for you somewhere else. It’s something you form by how you live, notice, and relate to what’s around you.
