Arrival
I watched this 10 years ago (jeez) in theaters when it came out and remember thinking it was a very striking and beautiful movie but I don’t think I was able to latch on to the plot or the themes in the same way I can now. So, let me just say that I am so glad that I decided to rewatch this film.
This film manages to have some of the most awe inspiring, gorgeous, articulate, minimalist, and complex visuals while also having beautiful writing that compliments the cinematography very well. Villeneuve and co really knew exactly what they were doing in almost every facet from the pacing that makes the two hours fly by to the structure that expertly hands the viewer key plot points and lets the viewer deduct some of the mystery while not giving everything away. Amy Adams steals the show from the acting side even though every actor gives good performances. This film definitely cements itself as quite possibly the best alien film I’ve seen up to this point in my film journey even though it is so much more than that.
