Salem's Lot
Salem’s Lot is undeniably a really solid story with interesting twists and turns. The entire time I was watching this I kept thinking how totally 70s TV miniseries this felt. Surprise that’s what this is. I thought this was a movie at first but there was no way. This just doesn’t feel grand at all. It feels very much so like it’s on a tight budget. Most scenes are just conversations in a house. Despite all that this adaptation of the classic King novel kept my interest and I couldn’t bring myself to turn it off. Watching the town slowly turn into Vampireville was pretty entertaining. The vampires don’t show up too much but when they do it’s definitely entertaining. This was solid enough, though I’d definitely recommend breaking this up into 2 sittings. I just watched some before bed and when I woke up. There’s some fun ominous small town vibes here with I enjoyed. It has a little hit of that weird twin peaks feel, where you’re peeling back the layers of this town. I love me an iconic horror house and this movie definitely delivers one of those. The house here is ominous, menacing, and imposing. I guess I did like this more than I originally thought. Just have your expectations be a 2 part late 70s TV miniseries and give yourself a break in the middle and I think you’ll have a good time with this too. The book has gone into my reading list. Idk if I’ll get to it this year. I’m still chugging my way through It. This thing has solid production design and makeup when it’s trying like at the end in the house. Solid little Stephen King romp that’s no too awful but also not too incredible.
