Shrek
I was talking to my dad about how Chris Farley was originally casted as Shrek and had finished up most of the recordings before he passed away. He thought about that and was completely convinced that the movie would have been something different had Shrek Farley seen the light of day. I fell down a bit of a rabbit hole after our talk, and found a few story boards that included Farley’s lines. Completely different movie, and I honestly wish I can see Shrek Farley.
In the timeline where society only acknowledges Mike Myers as Shrek, going down those archives really made me appreciate the movie for what it is. 24 years later and it still holds its charm and appeal, and somehow manages to stay culturally relevant. I didn’t expect to feel this unironically passionate over Shrek, but FUCK… also this was absolutely snubbed by the Academy. This should have won Best Picture 2002.
