Oldboy
박찬욱 감독 built a trap and called it a movie.
Oldboy makes you think you're watching a revenge, getting imprisoned for 15 years without knowing a reason, relased for no reason, looking for the answer with his crazy mind that has been used for 15 years. 오대수 is not a hero, he's just a man who's too angry to ask the right question and too broken to handle the answers.
The hallway fight scence (그 유명한 장도리 씬), just a man hammer against dozens of people, it shows no style, no majic, just exhaustion. The most honest action scene.
I think 최민식 done something that should not be possible, you watch a random man's whole body and soul gets dystroyed in 2 hours, but you can't take your eyes off it. His face in the final minutes made me actually sick. And 이우진 just sitting there with everything, he has already won before even the movie started. The plot twist reveal does not just reframe the ending, it reframes the whole movie, the every scene you have watched, makes you sit and think for a minute.
The last image is a smile that means two things at once and neither of them are okay.
