The Wrong Man
This is incredible. An absolutely anxiety-inducing nightmare. The realism throughout fills you with dread and hopelessness. Henry Fonda is incredible in this. The nuanced emotions, holding back, the fear, uncertainty, deep sorrow. Probably the most terrifying Hitchcock because of how real it is.
You see the whole film from Manny’s perspective which just adds to the uncertainty and anxiety. You never know what fully is going on. The rapid succession of events shows how hopeless he was throughout. There was nothing he could do. Each step of the process got worse and plunged him further from the truth.
A chilling examination of the justice system, really illustrating the trap of it all and the inescapability of it of those who are not well off.
And to top it all off, the disintegration of his life following the injustice. His whole life falls apart because of an injustice in this terrible system. Truly a horrifying story that is so real it could happen to anyone.
