Squid Game
Episode 1: Red Light, Green Light
10/10
In the beginning you see Seong Gi-Hun, a man in debt gambling to pay it off. Later on he plays a game with a man that gives him a card. He rings the number on the card and gets put into a game. “Red Light Green Light” He barely finishes the game and saw people die as played. Amazing start to the series.
Episode 2: Hell
9/10
In this episode the majority of all players voted to stop the game. Seong Go-Hun reports the game to the police station but they don’t believe him and he’s laughed at. It’s only when the detective finds out about this that they begin to believe him. This episode works really well and shows you more of the world outside the game.
Episode 3: The Man with the Umbrella
10/10
This episode starts with the detective from the previous episode killing a guard and taking their mask. He eventually takes his position as No. 29. In this episode’s round players have to pick a shape and carve it out of honeycomb without ruining it, if they do they get shot. This episode was consistently great.
Episode 4: Stick to the Team
10/10
The detective secretly changes his circle mask to a square mask to gain more power. This episode’s game is tug-of-war, Seong Go-Hun’s team seemed weak against the team they’re up against but the player 001 had a strategy from when he was young, it ends on a cliffhanger. This episode is really good and I enjoyed it a lot.
Episode 5: A Fair World
10/10
This episode continues where the previous one left off, player 001’s strategy worked and they won. We learn about Ali’s past and the Doctor and the guards get caught out and are shot. We also learn that this game has been played annually for over a decade. This episode is very exciting and I loved it.
Episode 6: Gganbu
10/10
In this episode all players have to pick a partner and play marbles with them, the player who loses gets eliminated. Player 218 betrayed 199 and got him eliminated. This episode keeps you on the edge of your seat and it’s more heartbreaking to see people die in this one as you are more attached to the players.
Episode 7: VIPS
8/10
This episode’s game, a guessing game where players cross a bridge with steps of either regular glass or tempered glass. If they step on the normal glass it breaks and they fall and get eliminated. The VIPS also arrive and watch this, only three players remain 456, 67 and 118 they find out about the detective and hunt for him. This episode is good but feels a bit slower than the others.
Episode 8: Front Man
9/10
The players are set in a gala dinner, 217 eventually kills 67. This episode keeps you on the edge of your seat just like episode six, 67 or Sae-byeok’s death is heart breaking and leaves us with just two players, 218 and 456.
Episode 9: One Lucky Day
9.5/10
For the final game the last two players are told to play Squid Game. After a tough battle 218 is stuck on the ground bleeding but stabs himself so that 456 would win. When it’s over 456 is told to go into a building, when he does he sees player 001 in a bed on life support. He then tells 456 that he made the game, he watched but played it for fun. This is a fantastic end to the series and I can’t wait for season 2.
