Okay, after watching it for the second time, I think I can finally say a little more. This is the kind of movie that burrows into your mind and refuses to leave. I’ve been waiting a whole week for this rewatch. What I love about this is how many different emotions it made me feel. The Sirens scene is probably my favorite one. It somehow made me feel everything and nothing at the same time. It was haunting, beautiful, and terrifying all at once. I honestly wish it was longer, but that was exactly the point. The scene with the pigs was just disturbing. I honestly wanted to look away. The sounds and how loud everything was in the cinema definitely didn’t help. But this movie was also incredibly emotional. I cried more than once. The moment when he returns, the way he talks about Troy with so much guilt, Athena’s look, and the music that comes with it -all of that made me feel weirdly emotional. And of course…the sweet, loyal dog broke me the most. The whole journey and the battles, together with (again) the incredible music, kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire 3 hours. Everything just works. The music, cinematography, and storytelling come together so well. Matt Damon as Odysseus was the perfect choice. This rewatch also proved one thing to me: never listen to people who review a movie before it’s even released. The whole casting controversy was so unbelievably unnecessary. I know many people will disagree with me, but while watching, all those complaints completely lose their meaning. I genuinely forgot Helena was even there -her character had like two lines? I’m going to miss this movie when it leaves theaters. I think it’s finally time to change my top 4.
