im writing this as im watching the movie so its kinda all over the place. everyone's acting in this movie was so unbelievably amazing, i love taylor russell, i love her ability to make maren so strong and complex yet also so pure. i also just adore maren as a character. I love timothees ability to play lee with two completely different sides, his softness to maren and kayla, the people he loves, while being aggressive and almost animalistic to many others. mark rylance as sully genuienely made me so physically uncomfortable that I didnt want to watch scenes with him when I first watched it which is exactly what means he did such an amazing job. the score is also one of the most fittingly uncomfortable ones ive heard, specifically in earlier scenes with sully. its so tense and unsettling, but silent at all the right moments it makes me really happy. its also very beautifully romantic and happy in scenes showing love between lee and maren, adding to the fact this whole movie clashes romance with horror so perfectly. (joy division needle drop! makes me happy! especially because the same song plays during one of my favourite scenes in stranger things too...) the last scene with sully is one of the most amazing but AWFUL things ive ever watched. its such a loud scene, his monologue being mixed with the beating pulse and strings genuienely stressed me out so bad, and then suddenly it cuts to the silence outside with the peace and birds chirping UGHHHH i love it so so so much. in my opinion i feel like this movie shows how shameful maren feels about who she is and her progression in trying to accept herself through someone like her, which i really like. her story with her mother is so unbelievably heartbreaking, and even though its one of the largest parts of the movies plot its so often underlooked. maren tried so hard to see her and look for something good with her just to be in such an emotionally painful situation with her mum, and with lee at the same time, making her journey so much more difficult. the cinematography is so beautiful, and really adds alot to the movie. i can hardly pinpoint certain shots because its such a visually stunning and creative movie. (i really like how zooming in/out in certain scenes and switching from different character's point of views, during conversation scenes specifically, further tells the story) and how in the scene where lee is bleeding out it shows stills of the room around them? idk what to say about it it just makes me happy... the first time I watched this i didnt even know how it was going to end and I really really hoped for them to have a happy ending together, because they were so close to it. i do always wonder what maren ever did in life out of the three options. holy yap and yes I say mum im scottish I ADORE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH!! ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVOURITES
