holy i have so many thoughts. the final boss of no plot have no cluewhat i just watched AHAH ok so i walked into this knowing nothing andbased on the first scene i just though it would just be some obsessive sensual love affair between the two partners and then takeshi kaneshiro shows up riding a pig this was a very bipolar film but jesus did i enjoy it like genuinely could not look away ok one the cinematography goes insane what a beautifully shot film, the gritty neon hong kong nightlife and all the up close and personal angles like damn. it was uncomfortable and personal and cramped and busy and i looved it ok bullet point thoughts - kaneshiro and braids girl cracked me up so bad - i think the female partner might b the most gorg girl oat and i really rated the odd shots of her aura farming with her cigarette - i didnt think anyone wouldbe able to match kaneshiros freak as much as braid girl but bro in the final couple scenes when i saw aura farm girl and kaneshiro together i was like OHHHHH this adds up so well and was such a great way to tie the two plots together like yes ofc theyre js two super weird people and thats great and like there reallt is love for everyone man including aura farm girl, blondie, kaneshiro and charlie. and for assassin guy erm well - i guess wong kar wai likes doing this two plot thjing but i feel like it was handled better in chungking express whilst here thefact that they were intertwined kinda annoyed me - this annoyance was relieved somewhat coz of the ending. i think the layout was js very surprising. - the relevance of the plots also comes to question coz like even though i saw assassin guy several times over teh course of thefilm i kidna have little to say about him. i feel like lots of this film was quite romantic actually and like all these weirdos of the night coming together and falling apart whilst he was js kinda emotionally unavailable and then died. he was kinda more of a device now that i think about it, and was almost like this chain holding back characters like blondie and aura farm girl.the part when she was like i wish it would rain forever really hit me like please there is mroe outside of this emotionally unavailable man. i think i kinds need time to reflect on this film and will probably be coming back to this review over the course of the next couple days. it was visceral, passionate, chaotic, cramped and dreamlike and the movie builds on these feelings over the course of almost two hours, to finally let you breathe on that last shot of the early morning sky, so cathartic. the night really is filled with weird people man.

policeman who is going to be ok(x2) this is genuinely just everything i could want out of a film. i love how the vibrant energy of hong kong bleeds into every single frame, the neon lights, the bustling setting etc its jsut so beautiful + the cinematography, wtvr filter or camera he was using js helped amplify the vibe by tenfold man i just love films that are so hopelessly romantic like those final lines how sweet both depictions of heartbreak were just so raw and melancholy and man i js loved the relentless pursuit of human connection in bustling 1990s hong kong like yes this is what its supposed to be every emotion was felt and presented so wholly, loneliness in the pursuit of love, hopefulness in finally giving up hope on their previous relationships only critique is that it should be longer !! i loved how both stories ended somewhat vague coz in that way they truly keep the hope alive, but maybe a bit more meat in the middle. ok i js read a biunch of reviews on this n i dont appreciate this faye wong hate

I’ve been meaning to watch this film genuinelt from the second it came out, so here I am finally. I think because of how long i’ve waited to watch it I had many expectations but Jesus christ that was amazing. Just those final couple scenes of Ki woo imagining a better life and then it cutting to him in his basement house and how the view from the two windows changes so drastically deserves so much praise That actuallt stuck with me for so long that I genuinely couldn’t watch anything else after this on my 14 hour flight

to me their relationship just seemed quite superficial it was almost 2 hours of work place chatter between two people who have been slighted in love, but have no actual chemistry between them. for a movie all about understanding each other on a deeper level and surpassing the barrier of language, nothing actually special was truly discussed and i felt no spark between the two leads i did like the end scene at the movie theatre tho coz somehow by not being able to undertand them, there is hope that maybe something a bit more nuanced then the past 2 hours of dialogue was said. i just really did not see anything special about their relationship man like none of their conversations were so eye opening, it really did js feel like small talk and that they were both js lonely people who had lost their significant others and needed someone to talk to i initially gravitated towards this film coz i usually quite like films with no real plot but instead of having no real plot i felt like it just had no real meaning ive come back to this review after watchig chungking express which was a big inspo for this film and was literallt discussed and i genuinely think this films issue might be that there was too much dialogue😭 i understand they were both lonely people jsut craving human connection but after spedning dayson days on days stuck together and her literallybeing his only gatway into interacting with the world around him and your convos still consist of menial small talk then tis like cmon man its jsut alarmingly obvious this isnt going to work out and is js a result of their loneliness, just completely cutting out anything distinctly romantic about the film
