I will not GET BACK to this one ever again! The half star is for the Bee Gees’ harmonies, Aerosmith, Earth Wind & Fire, and of course Billy Preston. Other than that, that’s it!

Blow Out has an amazing premise. However, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it for a big chunk of the movie. The first half of the film really compelled me and then I started to fall off a bit towards the middle. But, what I originally thought was going to be a 2.5 star film became a four star one. The ending sequence and ending itself absolutely made this film. It was a beautiful, haunting full circle. I couldn’t have asked for a different ending. It was perfect.

This film had a lot of complex and interesting concepts about the meaning of life and our own inner personal struggles, but its message becomes muffled and diluted at the film’s finale and left me with confusion and wanting more. While the symbolism of each characters’ own stories has elements that do make sense, it just doesn’t work overall. This film would have worked so much better with more compelling characters, less focus on the main father and son, and as an anthology or short play rather than a feature film (especially with the film’s opening which is the best thing about the film.) You know it’s bad when you have to scour the internet for “Ending Explained” videos.
