Sinners
If I see one more edit of that fuckass vampire man Istg. He’s meant to represent white supremacy, people know that, right? Just because Michael B Jordan’s character (incredible performance from him btw) asks if he’s a member of a horrible group of racists and he says “SIR?” as if offended, it does NOT mean that he actually believes “in equality”. There’s one specific part where he’s trying to turn the main character, Sammie, into a vampire and literally everyone says like “no, he’s ours, you can’t have him”. Sammie is often portrayed as a symbol of the blues and just black culture in general (hence the “I lied to you” song scene that includes all generations of black culture), therefore, Remmick attempting to turn him into a vampire is a representation of white people stealing the culture of minorities and pretending that they’re doing for equal purposes. Remmick pretends that he’s helping people of colour because he profits off of them, as shown with his control over them with the hive mind concept that is reinforced throughout the film. It should also be noted that he turns white people first. It’s initially that racist couple at the beginning, and then he moves on to the white presenting character, Mary. He does it because he represents white supremacy. I can’t emphasise the point enough. He himself is even affected by the viewpoint he symbolises. He knows the Lord’s Prayer because his town was overrun by people who forced him to recite it. Vampirism in the movie is white supremacy and the effect that it has on different races. It’s so annoying to me that people think he’s attractive and therefore justified in the actions he carries out. I understand that he himself is affected by being a “vampire”, but it’s stated that he’s effected less because he rules over literally everyone, if a random character were to get stabbed and killed, it wouldn’t harm him, but if he gets hurt, then the other vampires feel his pain. He has a direct influence on the people he’s turned. Just as white men have a direct influence on our society.
