Barbie

The last time I watched this was in the cinemas with my mum, and I remember not liking it very much, I only gave it 3 stars. I honestly don't know what I was thinking. I was very naive back then and didn't realise what an absolute masterpiece this movie was!

My mum absolutely loves this movie. She's a Barbie fanatic. She has literally hundreds of Barbie dolls all around the house, and she even has all the dolls from this movie. I love the fact that they will all be mine one day!

Margot Robbie’s performance in this movie is a masterclass in range. She begins the film as the quintessential 'Stereotypical Barbie,' radiating a polished, plastic-perfect energy that feels plucked straight from a toy box. However, it’s her transformation that truly anchors the movie. As she trades the flawless shores of Barbieland for the gritty complexity of the Real World, Robbie expertly portrays the weight of newfound vulnerability. Watching her navigate the sudden change of human emotions, from the sting of self-consciousness to the profound beauty of a tear, is nothing short of captivating. She gave a doll a soul, and it’s hard to believe anyone else could have balanced that absurdity and heart so effortlessly!

Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Ken is nothing short of a comedic revelation. He nearly steals the show, wielding a weaponized sense of 'Kenergy' that balances total absurdity with a strange, pathetic vulnerability. His impeccable comedic timing, ranging from deadpan stares to high-drama musical numbers, provides the perfect counterweight to the movie’s heavier existential themes. it’s clear that Gosling didn't just play a supporting role. He brought a necessary levity that kept the film's emotional core from feeling too weighted down.
₊˚⊹♡
America Ferrera was the ideal choice for the role of Gloria. Having grown up watching her in Ugly Betty, a show centred on a woman navigating the publishing world while being marginalized for not meeting traditional beauty standards, her casting feels incredibly poignant. It’s fitting that Ferrera delivers the film’s standout monologue regarding the unrealistic expectations placed on women. she provides a grounded, real-world perspective that gives the vibrant, candy-colored world of Barbie its emotional heart.

I love how accurate they made Barbieland look to the real toys. It genuinely looks like the actors have been shrunk down to fit into a play set!
₊˚⊹♡
They truly couldn't have made a better soundtrack. It kicks off with loud, infectious fun that perfectly mirrors the magic of Barbieland, then hits you right in the heart with Billie Eilish’s 'What Was I Made For?' It’s the perfect emotional anchor for the entire movie!
₊˚⊹♡
I love being a women, i would choose to be one in every lifetime!
