to save my love for the first film i’m going to pretend this movie doesn’t exist. firstly they changed the dynamic for like all of the characters especially miranda- and i am purely blaming either the writers or directors or anyone because meryl streep could never do anything wrong- but she didn’t have the same edge to her as before and it clearly was an intentional decision but personally i didn’t like it at all also everyone complaining about the colour grading and at the start i didn’t think it was as bad as people said because it was partially edited to look like it was filmed on film but the more it got through it was increasingly obvious and didn’t have the same vibe as 2006. there were certain scenes that i could clearly see they thought ‘we need to have bright colour so people can’t say it’s dull’ so they put obvious random bright colours that stuck out too much compared to everything else dull and white. also something i noticed the whole way through- apart from both stanley tucci (because he is genuinely amazing) and anne hathaway (because i genuinely think she wasn’t acting and that is her actual personality in real life)- that all the actors were clearly acting and you could tell they were performing for a character which made me disassociate with the scenes and i couldn’t connect with the characters like the last film. there was far too many references to the first film which was nice at first but even within the opening credits it was clear they were trying to make the 40 year olds watching feel nostalgic about 20 years ago. the end- although i was extremely happy for stanley tuccis character- i think again it ruined miranda’s character because she would never have done that in the first film (because she literally does the opposite in it) but i think they only did it so that people in reviews said that it was a perfect finish and a perfect sequel instead of the PERFECT way the last film finished. there wasn’t a line i would quotes, it lacked emotional depth, and absolutely was just made for money
