Watchmen
"God doesn't make the world this way, we do."
That line is the entire film distilled into a single sentence. Watchmen isn't about gods saving humanity, it's about ordinary people convincing themselves that their worst decisions are necessary. Every character is trying to impose order on a world that refuses to have any, and every attempt leaves it more broken than before.
By the end, there are no heroes, no villains, just people choosing which lie they'll live with. The real horror isn't that the world is cruel. It's that cruelty is almost always human made. We create our own monsters, our own wars, our own moral compromises, then search for something higher to blame.
Maybe that's why the quote lingers long after the credits. God didn't make the world this way. We did. And that's a far more terrifying thought.
