Nosferatu

first impressions: Lily-Rose Depp channeling Keira Knightley like her career depends on it; Aaron Johnson giving the worst, most out-of-place performance we could have asked for; British-accented Germans + whatever tf Johnson was doing. Lily-Rose was amazing. the critique of Ellen’s monotony is valid butttt she’s so me omg, so i’ll let it slide. i’ve seen many comparisons to Coppola’s Dracula, which i don’t think is a fair comparison. similar origins, but not the same text. i deeply appreciate the gloominess and stark sense of dread the story of Nosferatu explores, and i really like the way it was channeled through Ellen. my only real critique is she wasn’t gay enough!! i think a more overt exploration of sexuality would’ve been an interesting path to go down, especially considering Eggers didn’t bring us any new takes.  Johnson sucks, so bad, and i won’t be letting it slide.
