Kidnapped
All the moments of revelation for the boy seem to come from helplessness: from being threatened by his father and left hanging on the windowsill, to being swept up by the rioting crowd on the way to the funeral. Religion, politics, and power package the helpless person’s conversion as devout faith. This is a form of magical kidnapping that pins a body (myself) soaked in Marxist atheistic education for over twenty years to the seat, rendering it immobile.
