Whiplash
It makes me sick and even more cynical. It reminds me of some teachers back in high school who always saw themselves as some kind of life guru despite the fact that they were just narcissistic cunts. Sure, the world is not driven by empty praise, but what exactly are you doing here? Giving people anxiety and depression? What do you mean you’ll never apologise? This motherfucker might be the most selfish person I’ve ever seen.
It’s necessary that the filmmakers never turned him into a heroic conductor. And the story could’ve ended at countless points, but instead it chose the most explosive ending possible. And btw he might be successful in the end, but there’s always the randomness, to some extent, that guides you towards the results, not the psychos’ crazy crap.
Jazz never felt particularly intense to me before, but this film helped me understand that intensity without forcing me to admire the man behind it. Marvellous piece.
