The bones of this are fantastic, but the implementation of them left slightly more to be desired. I wanted to come out of this feeling more than I did; the execution of the titular scheme didn’t grab me as much as I hoped and the central familial relationship feels underdeveloped as opposed to say, The Royal Tenenbaums or The Darjeeling Limited. That being said, I found this to be quite enjoyable and funny. The cast is uniformly great. Benicio Del Toro was an excellent choice for Korda and I hope he gets to anchor another Wes film. This was my first time seeing Mia Threapleton and I connected to her performance instantly, hopefully this is a breakout moment for her. I cannot believe this is Michael Cera’s first collaboration with Wes, he fits into this kind of world so perfectly. With a bit more fleshing out of its ideas it could have been great, but as it sits, it’s pretty good outing from Wes. Wes Anderson Ranked2025 Ranked

Man do I wish I could have been in that crowd; this was an absolutely infectious serotonin boost. I need to channel David Byrne’s whimsy.

When I go to the club I wanna hear those club classics (“Man of Constant Sorrow” by the Soggy Bottom Boys)

I have never rolled my eyes harder than watching those boys. I know the point is that they are losers but could they be the tiniest bit more compelling if we’re going to spend that much time with them? I understand what the film is trying to do with them but I’m kind of torn about that aspect. Like, I get it. That doesn’t mean I have to like it, but overall, I get it. A lot of people think that the girls are substance-less and that’s true to a extent, but we did get peaks into something deeper with Lux that I wish we saw with her sisters as well. Everytime the girls were onscreen I was infinitely more invested. Kirsten Dunst does a lot with a little. But yeah, quite a good film that I will never watch again, and a great debut for Sofia Coppola. This is really beautifully made.
