The Vanishing
You're stuck inside a golden egg and you can't get out, and you float all alone through space forever.
It plays out like one long haunting dream that turns into a nightmare you can't escape. It isn't loud nor desperate to scare you, it just traps you in this suffocating space where you're as obsessed as Rex with finding out what happened. Rex spends years clawing for answers, unable to let go. He even describes it as being trapped inside a golden egg, floating alone through space forever, and that image just nails the suffocating loneliness of not knowing. Saskia calls it unbearable, and watching Rex spiral makes you believe her.
What makes it terrifying is how ordinary Raymond is. He isn't a monster in appearance, just a man testing himself to see how far he can go, and that makes it worse. Every smile, every calm word carries this black heart underneath, and the movie never lets you escape from that contrast. It's bleak and completely unforgiving. No hope, no justice, just evil that exists because it can. That final scene is one of the most chilling endings I've ever seen as it doesn't scream at you. It whispers, and the echo stays long after it's over.
