Scarface
The world is yours. This Scarface is a modernized version of the previous one from 1932, now they have better film theory, and better cinematography and better quality. So I am not here to judge that as so many others have before.
This was quite a shift from the 1932 version. It didn't include the slasher type horror, where we see the consequences of his actions. All we see is Tony's Icarus' esque journey, where it can either be interperated as tragedy, or a moment where we have nothing but ambition driving us forward. Either way this movie made Montana feel a lot more pathetic.
The reason I say that is not because I think it's a bad movie, but rather that's what makes it so great. He copies what others have said (may be in reference to how this movie also copied). He can't control himself and is overprotective of his sister. His virility collapses throughout the telling and this leads him into dark places.
Overall this movie was fantastic and I am glad that I have this in my repertoire for future reference, because even before watching this movie, I knew of it's influence, especially in hip-hop.
