Perfect by every stretch of the imagination. Takes an amazing story and pulls it to a darker place while expanding on the young Star Wars universe and strengthening its themes. This film is immaculate.
A masterpiece. Has a few pacing flaws but nothing overt enough to dock its score. After it seemed as though the franchise would stagnate and retell a familiar story, we received this, a compelling story about how to maintain hope while failure seems abundant. This is the post-OT franchise at its very best.
A film that sets up the overarching story for each trilogy. The story of the Star Wars saga is one about a rebellion against some sort of greater power, a story about underdogs. This film sets that tone beautifully, while also dealing with themes such as the struggle between wanting to run away from or confront one’s problems.
A vastly underrated film. Has the best lightsaber battle of the franchise in Luke vs Vader. Unfortunately the Ewoks are a sign of Star Wars beginning to become more about the merchandise.
A nice little reintroduction into a series we love reminding us why we first fell in love with Star Wars. This was a great film to kick off the new trilogy with after experiencing the terribly misguided prequel trilogy. It doesn’t really do anything new but it certainly succeeds in letting the audience love Star Wars once again.
Not bad. Not good. Definitely fixes a lot of the problems of the first two prequels. But all 3 of these movies have always felt extremely lifeless to me, and it’s hard for me to get much enjoyment out of any of them.
I love the visual direction in this movie. Garett did a great job in that regard. But the script is so boring... the most memorable, human character is a robot
Imagine making a movie about one of the coolest characters in all of cinema and not giving it any visual style whatsoever. I’m just relieved that it didn’t do anything to absolutely ruin Hans character.
I think it’s better than some people give it credit for, but it still sucks. This film maybe should’ve been a 15 minute prologue to another film
Really devastated by the quality on this one. Nearly a great trilogy, but JJ Abrams was too concerned with finishing his original vision rather than telling a new, compelling story with the tools Rian Johnson offered him. Unfortunate that this one turned into a mess. It didn’t only make bad choices with the story, but it was a directorial mess as well.
